Strong Quake Strikes Aleutian Islands — Quake Revised to a 7.8
strongest to hit the region since 2000

Strasbourg, (DPA) An earthquake measuring 7.5 on the open-ended Richter scale struck the Aleutian Islands early today, the Geological Observatory in Strasbourg announced.

The temblor was registered at 0642 GMT today (6:42 yesterday evening local time) and was the biggest earthquake since 2000 to strike the sparsely inhabited islands which are part of Alaska, and situated between Alaska and Siberia.

There were no reports of damages or casualties.
