Poll: Most Americans Oppose Iraq Funding Request
Sept. 14, 2003
WASHINGTON, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- A new Washington Post-ABC News poll says most Americans oppose President Bush's request for another $87 billion to fund Iraqi operations.
Six in 10 Americans said they do not support Bush's funding request, The Washington Post reported Sunday.
Respondents also said if Congress approves the funds, they should be paid for with a rollback of the president's tax cuts instead of adding to the budget deficit or cutting government spending.
The survey interviewed 1,104 adults between Sept. 10 and Sept. 13. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
The president's overall job approval rating remained stable, with 58 percent approving of the job he is doing as president while 40 percent disapproved.
But the survey said the public's opinion on Bush and international affairs had never been lower. Only 53 percent approved of the president's policies abroad, compared to 67 percent barely two months ago.
