Power Outage Shuts Down Dayton Airport
October 12, 2003
DAYTON, Ohio -- A power outage shut down flights at Dayton International Airport for about three hours Sunday, and a separate outage affected about 14,400 people in the north section of the city.
The Dayton, Power and Light Co. outages were not connected, company spokesman Bryce Nickel said. The airport outage was caused by an underground cable failure, while downed power lines caused the other outage, he said.
"Most flights were delayed because we could not screen anyone through the security checkpoint," said Sharon Sears, an airport spokeswoman.
Sears said she could not immediately estimate how many flights or passengers were affected.
DPL serves about 500,000 customers in western Ohio.
