"Mysterious Blast" Again in Rajkot
January 2, 2003
Ahmedabad, Jan. 2. (PTI): A house was damaged in yet another "mysterious blast" at Rannath Para area of Rajkot yesterday, official sources today said.
The "blast" that occurred in the wee hours, created a hole in the floor of the house, ripped the tiles and caused cracks on the walls, they said. However, no one was injured in the incident, sources said adding that the residents were shifted to safety.
The "workstation instruments" installed at a circuit house in Rajkot by a team from Central Seismology Division did not show any readings of the blast, they said.
The team headed by Prof A A Shukla, Director of Central Seismology Division, had set up three workstations in Rajkot to monitor and investigate the "mysterious blasts" occurring in some areas of the region for the last one week.
The "unknown blasts" have not caused injuries or claimed casualties but have caused minor damage to some buildings, sources said.
Earlier on December 27, five houses were damaged due to these "mysterious blasts" in Laxmiwadi area.
The team also assessed these areas but stated that the "actual" reasons could still not be established as there was no equipment to monitor the blast when it occurred, sources said.
