Young Girl Burned By Yellowstone Geyser Waters

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. -- A 5-year-old girl was burned after she fell into 160-degree water while playing with her brother near a geyser in Yellowstone National Park.

The girl, of Tucson, Ariz., suffered minor burns to her lower extremities and back in the fall, which occurred late Wednesday afternoon in the park's popular Norris Geyser Basin (pictured, left), Yellowstone superintendent Suzanne Lewis said Thursday.

Constant Geyser was erupting when the girl fell from a nearby boardwalk into a runoff channel from another geyser. The water was less than 2 inches deep but extremely hot, Lewis said.

Her parents and an eyewitness administered first aid before the girl was carried to the Norris Museum, where park rangers responded.

She was later treated and released from the Lake Clinic.
