A powerful evening thunderstorm piled up hail in foot-high drifts and flooded some streets in Golden.

No injuries were reported in the storm's wake, which triggered flash-flood warnings for northeastern Jefferson County, west central Adams County and Denver until midnight.

Later, northern and western Boulder County was added to the flash-flood warning. The National Weather Service office in Boulder said U.S. 36 at Lyons was submerged by flooding around 10 p.m.

In Golden, flooding was reported in the areas of Ford Avenue between 10th and 12th Streets, and Washington Avenue at 19th Street, but no evacuations were required, said Julie Brooks, spokeswoman for the Golden Police Department.

Tall hail drifts were reported by the Colorado Mills shopping mall. Hail diameter ranged from 0.75 inches to 1.5 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service also reported that the storm produced rainfall rates of 2 inches in 45 minutes in some spots.

Heavy downpours also hit Arvada, Wheat Ridge, Berthoud and Pinewood Springs, the National Weather Service reported.

The Colorado Department of Transportation reported a small mudslide covered half of one lane at the intersection of Colorado 119 and U.S. 6, in Clear Creek Canyon.

It required a temporary redirection of traffic but was quickly cleared away.

CDOT snowplows also were called to clear hail that had piled up on Denver West Parkway in Lakewood. Flooding forced a very brief closure of Colfax Avenue between Kipling and Miller Streets in Jefferson County.
