CAMBRIDGE A power outage that began around 11 a.m. Wednesday morning affected 12,000 American Electric Power customers in Cambridge and surrounding areas.
Terri Flora, a spokesperson with AEP, said the power company is not sure what caused the outage.
“We were working on a transmission line when the initial outage occurred,” Flora said. “We had that line down, so it wasn’t up to provide back up.”
The areas affected by the outage included most of Cambridge, as well as Old Washington, Senecaville, Kimbolton, North Salem and part of Byesville. Flora said between 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., power was restored to a majority of the customers.
“We still have about 1,500 customers down in Old Washington and Senecaville,” she said around 4:30 p.m. Power was expected to be fully restored by 9 p.m. Wednesday night.
