We are witnessing the effects of mob psychology at work Bill. I cannot remember who it was who wrote something along the line that, "humanity seems to succumb to madness en masse and only recover their sanity slowly and one at a time."
That is exactly what we are watching take place. "The mob" is caught up in the notion that somehow this recovery is built on a solid foundation and that the dollar's fundamentals are strong and solid. Until the effects of the opium distributed by their financial lords and masters wears off, I do not hold out much hope for most of them. They have listened to the lies of the financial elites for so long that anything that deviates from that "orthodoxy" is now viewed in much the same light as heretical teaching in religious circles. That is why those who advocate honest money and the discipline that gold enforces are relegated to the fringes and viewed in much the same light as the "schismatics" of the 16th century were for their stand for truth. I might add that Greenspan seems to have evolved into a type of high priest officiating over the new religion which has as its core the doctrine that true prosperity and wealth consists of ever increasing credit limits.
The simple and unvarnished truth is the United States is sitting on a mountain of debt which continues to expand and at some point will no longer be sustainable. Any rational thinking human being can see this. It is not complicated nor is it abstruse or exotic. Sadly, in spite of this, the mob is unable to see thru the web of deceit which seems to have settled over their minds like a thick fog arising from a nearby swamp.
The reason behind this apparent lemming-like behavior is not hard to find. This generation as a whole has utterly lost the ability to think through and clearly analyze what is taking place around them. I personally believe this is the result of the public education system in this land which has been deliberately and systematically altered so as to produce a generation of helpless citizens who have learned to look to government to save them and care for them. Past generations were steeped in the classics and learned such things as logic and deductive analysis. They could understand cause and effect. No longer - Today, that is passé` in favor of such mind wasting idiocy as studies in diversity and whatever else the politically correct intelligentsia decide is useful for the masses to learn that will further make them more dependent on the state.
Think about the tragedy that is taking place around us. While our nation has embarked on a "guns and butter" policy that makes the Vietnam era look tame by comparison as our military is stretched to the limits and debt is swallowing the multitudes like a ravenous beast, Americans sit stupidly in front of their Television sets night after night seeing who will be the next to get fired from the firm of Trump Inc., or who will be left on the Island, or who will get the date or the proposal. It appears to me a type of madness has indeed engulfed this people.
These events call to mind some of the famous speeches and writings of Samuel Adams, the firebrand patriot who stirred the hearts and minds of his listeners during the days of the American Revolution. He too was struck by the indifference and apathy of so many who sat idly by while their freedoms were systematically being trampled on. Marveling at this stupor, Adams penned the following scathing remarks which I think are most apropos for today. I give them below for the reader to reflect upon:
"However mysterious fawning priests and flatterers may affect to think it, Kings and Governors may be guilty of treason and rebellion: And they have in general in all ages and countries been more frequently guilty of it, than their subjects. Nay, what has been commonly called rebellion in the people, has often been nothing else but a manly & glorious struggle in opposition to the lawless power of rebellious Kings and Princes; who being elevated above the rest of mankind, and paid by them only to be their protectors, have been taught by enthusiasts to believe they were authorized by GOD to enslave and butcher them! It is not uncommon for men, by their own inattention and folly, to suffer those things which an all-gracious providence designed for their good, to become the greatest evils. If we look into the present state of the world, I believe this will hold good with regard to civil government in general: And the history of past ages will inform us, that even those civil institutions which have been best calculated for the safety and happiness of the people, have sooner or later degenerated into settled tyranny; which can no more be called civil government, and is in fact upon some accounts a state much more to be deprecated than anarchy itself. It may be said of each, that it is a state of war: And it is beyond measure astonishing that free people can see the miseries of such a state approaching to them with large and hasty strides, and suffer themselves to be deluded by the artful insinuations of a man in tower, and his indefatigable sycophants, into a full persuasion that their liberties are in no danger. May we not be allowed to adopt the language of scripture, and apply it upon so important a consideration; that seeing, men will see and not perceive, and hearing, they will hear and not understand?
Is it not High Time for the People of this Country explicitly to declare, whether they will be Freemen or Slaves? It is an important Question which ought to be decided. It concerns us more than any Thing in this Life. The Salvation of our Souls is interested in the Event: For wherever Tyranny is established, Immorality of every Kind comes in like a Torrent. It is in the Interest of Tyrants to reduce the People to Ignorance and Vice. For they cannot live in any Country where Virtue and Knowledge prevail. The Religion and public Liberty of a People are intimately connected; their Interests are interwoven, they cannot subsist separately; and therefore they rise and fall together. For this Reason, it is always observable, that those who are combined to destroy the People's Liberties practice every Art to poison their Morals. How greatly then does it concern us, at all Events, to put a Stop to the Progress of Tyranny.
If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen." Samuel Adams
