During Stalin’s rule, what amounted to an "internal passport" was required for travel within the USSR. Now our Homeland Security Department is considering an internal visa, very much along the line of what was required in the Stalinist era.
Such a document has no practical use against the strategy of terrorism. It is another move by bureaucrats, not Republicans, not neo cons, not Democrats or liberals to accomplish what could not be accomplished in normal times.
I have always wondered how the Jewish population in Germany failed to understand the consequences of the rise of the Third Reich and its implications to their community.
This is NOT a political comment as I see no change in the overall trend of affairs no matter who becomes president. However, you must ask yourself where all this is going as the US and other citizens of the world exchange all their hard one freedoms for some perceived yet illusionary protection.
It is illusionary because you need to know what a trained professional killer can accomplish for his particular cause. All the groping, squeezing and wand passing are ultimately useless gesturing. Internal visas could easily be obtained by professionals.
No nitwit groper will ever find the weapon carried by Mata Hari. No psychological profile or FBI sketch can stop a dirty bomb. No military defensive action has ever stopped the strategy of "terrorism" because it is akin to hitting a water drop with your fist to dry a table.
Privacy is gone and that is the key element of a free society. On the other hand, an un-free society includes the lack of the right of privacy combined with the suppression of dissent. The latter was evident in the concentration camp of New York City during the recent Republican convention.
Should the lady that interrupted Mrs. Bush's speech with a shirt saying her son was killed in Iraq be tried? It will simply memorialize suppression of dissent. Are you all blind to what is in front of your eyes? It is not a Republican or a Democrat thing at all. Don't fall for that. It is the victory of terrorism misunderstood as a place or group of people.
You cannot fight a "concept or strategy" militaristically and obtain any kind of a victory. Terrorism as a strategy has for its victory the destruction of our freedoms and our vibrant economy which supports individual initiative.

Good money offers privacy, constant buying power and NO allegiance to any state or ideology. There is only one money that fulfills Gresham's Law and that is gold. You can deny economics. You can berate dead economists of the Austrian School or the old Chicago School but neither makes wrong what is undeniably right.
The US dollar turned terminal as a reserve currency September 7th, 2004 at a meeting of the surviving founders of one of Europe's wealthiest families. Gold entered into the dawn of its supremacy as a reserve asset of major central banks that will last the lifetime of every single person reading this missive.

It doesn't matter who becomes president of the US as the bureaucracy of Homeland Security will grow to protect freedom until there is none left. Study the growth of the Third Reich and replace the persecuted Jewish population with the word "terrorism." You say it is different. Was the thesis of the holocaust not sold to the German public as their protection from an illusionary risk? In principle, it is just the same tactic in modern dress.
