Al-Qaeda Ideologist Warns of "Unimaginable" Attack

Jan. 25, 2004

MIDDLE EAST: Louis Attyiat-Allah, an self-proclaimed Al-Qaeda ideologist, has warned that a massive Al-Qaeda attack was pending and criticized Middle East television channel Al-Jazeera for not airing all of a recent speech by Usama bin Laden.

In the recent issue of the Al-Qaeda biweekly magazine "Sawt al-Jihad", Attyiat-Allah said a possible future attack on the same scale as 9-11 was coming. He described it as innovative and would come at a time completely unexpected.

Attyiat-Allah said western analysts would be unable to predict when the attack could occur, because it would be "unimaginable in the normal way."

"It will be bigger, in the sense that the loss from which America and the Western World will suffer, because it will be very big and immeasurable...due to its greatness, it will change the global power balance," he said.

Despite making these warnings, Attyiat-Allah did not say what his sources were. The comments have not been authenticated by U.S. or allied intelligence sources, though more than one analyst told EmergencyNet News that "the threat seems to be in keeping with previous Al-Qaeda doctrine." Many U.S. government intelligence analysts believe that "Sawt al-Jihad" and other alleged Al-Qaeda associated websites and mailing lists largely consist of "misdirection and misinformation."

Also in the magazine article, Attyiat-Allah said he was upset that television station Al-Jazeera did not air a recent interview by Usama bin Laden in its entirety.

“I felt angry at al-Jazeera channel for cutting the speech from over 40 minutes to 14 minutes only, because it is very clear that this is one of the most important speeches of the Sheikh," Attyiat-Allah complained.

"It is clear that this is a detailed, political speech, and that the Sheikh read it from a paper which was prepared beforehand... in my personal opinion, this speech, in its essence, is a speech [about the] future," he added.
