CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. -- Postal officials suspended service to a neighborhood in this city after four acid bombs damaged a car and three mailboxes in one day.
No one was injured by the bombs, which detonated in the trunk of a Broward Sheriff's deputy's personal car and in three mailboxes, according to Coral Springs Police spokesman Sgt. Rich Nicorvo.
A fifth bomb, found in the middle of a driveway, did not detonate, he said.
The devices - plastic bottles filled with a combination of chemicals that can cause severe burns - were likely the work of young pranksters, officials said.
"It's usually around the end of the school year that we get this kind of thing," Nicorvo said.
Postal workers suspended service in the square-mile area where the bombs exploded as police checked mailboxes Tuesday, said postal inspector Debby Allison.
Delivery service was expected to resume in all areas on Wednesday, she said.
In total, 11 acid bombs have been found in this city since May 24.
If the perpetrators are found, they may face second-degree felony charges of placing a destructive device, which carry a maximum jail time of 15 years, Nicorvo said.
