Residents Report Lights In Sky Over At Least Five States
July 8, 2004
FORT WORTH, Texas -- First the sky lit up and then callers did the same to police phone lines across five states.
A spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration said it's likely that what people saw Wednesday night from Texas to western Tennessee was a meteorite -- probably several.
The lights flashed across the sky shortly after 9 p.m. in portions of Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Tennessee.
A spokesman for the National Weather Service in Fort Worth said it wasn't a weather event.
A forecaster in Louisiana said that whatever the object was, it had to be very high up in the sky and quite large for such a large area of people to have seen it.
