RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, (UPI) -- Five people were killed in three explosions early Sunday at a residential housing compound in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
At least 100 people were injured in the blasts, many of them children, the Arabic-launguage TV network al-Jazeera reported.
The explosions were accompanied by a fire as well as a shootout with authorities in the compound that houses foreigners from a variety of countries.
A Saudi Interior Ministry spokesman said a terrorist bombing struck the compound, according to the Saudi SPA news agency.
A U.S. embassy spokeswoman said 10 homes were leveled and that the explosion was not in the diplomatic section of the housing complex.
