Lightning was to blame for Saturday night's power failure in Johannesburg's western suburbs, said City Power spokeswoman, Kgaladi Ncube.
"This was not our doing" she said of the outage - the umpteenth in the area since the Hurst Hill sub-station burned down late last year.
Lighting hit overhead cables during a heavy storm, knocking out the Orlando and Fordsburg sub-stations at 7.37pm, said Ncube.
Power was cut to several western suburbs, among them, Auckland Park, Melville, Westdene, Newlands, Albertville, and Roodepoort, Ruimsig, Honeydew, and Naturena.
Technicians had to first establish the cause of the power failure before they could restore the electricity - a gradual process which was completed by 11.05pm, she said.
