LONDON : British airports have cancelled 31 flights to and from the United States' northeast region, which has been hit by severe blizzard-like conditions, officials said on Sunday.
London's main Heathrow airport cancelled 29 arrivals and departures after heavy snowfall in New York, Boston and Philadelphia.
"There's minor congestion in the terminals due to this but not a situation where people are stranded," a Heathrow spokeswoman said.
Manchester airport in northwest England said it had cancelled two flights, one arriving from New York and the other from Philadephia.
"All other flights are operating as normal, but some are late," a spokeswoman said.
More than 1,000 flights in and out of New York and Boston, and 700 at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, were cancelled on Saturday, according to industry experts.
Philadelphia International Airport in Pennsylvania closed late Saturday because of poor visibility and was not expected to reopen until Sunday, officials said. - AFP
