Scientists in the US say the underwater shock wave from last month's deadly earthquake in Asia travelled at 12,000 kilometres an hour.
Hydro-geologists who monitor deep water wells under Florida say only an hour after the massive earthquake, water levels in wells nearly 13,000 kilometres (8,079miles) away spiked up to 10 centimetres (4 inches).
Experts say the levels in the Florida acquifer normally change very slowly.
They say the sudden large jump indicates the incredible speed of the seismic waves caused by the Boxing Day earthquake.
The tsunami after the earthquake killed more than 225,000 people.
