Russia: Gold and Forex Reserves Soared

The Central Bank of Russia reported Russia's gold and forex reserves in 2004 soared $47.603 billion or 62% from $76.938 billion on January 1, 2004 to $124.541 billion on January 1, 2005.

Bank said on its website that in the last week of December reserves went up by $3.8 billion.

The last four months saw especially strong growth: by $6.4 billion in September, $12.3 billion in October, $10.1 billion in November and $7.1 billion in December, a total of $35.8 billion or 40% compared to September 1.

In December monetary reserve gold rose from $3.731 billion to $3.732 billion and forex reserves from $96.832 billion to $119.099 billion.
