ABCNews is reporting that an Egyptian man was stopped at JFK Airport in New York City, when his shoes tested positive for TATP, the explosive used in the London bombings.
According to the report. the shoes tested positive five different times, making a false positive highly unlikely.
The shoes were reportedly "remarkably similar" to those worn by convicted shoe bomber Richard Reid, who was plead guilty attempted to blow up a Paris to Miami commercial airliner with explosives-packed shoes on December 22, 2002.
The man, who claimed to be a student at Iowa State University in Ames, was bound for Des Moines.
He was released by airport security before the FBI could be notified. The man has since disappeared.
A few weeks ago, Kenyan police stopped three men at the airport carrying explosives, and with wired shoes. Kenyan authorities suspect that the men may have been shoe bombers. See article here
