China is all up in the arms in visualizing a scenario in which US-Japan-Australia starts defending Taiwan against the Mainland China.
Australia and Japan should not get involved in any U.S. effort to defend Taiwan, He Yafei, Beijing's director-general of North American and Oceanian Affairs, said March 8. He said China does not want Taiwan to "become one of the elements that will be taken up by bilateral military alliances." An Australian government spokesman said Canberra has no intention of amending its bilateral military alliance with the United States.
