Honolulu Odors

January 10, 2007

Aloha, Steve. Just letting you know that we've woken up to a very light but strange odor for the last three days. No one else but Ron has said anything and that's because I mentioned it to him first. He was able to discern the faint odor. I have a very good sense of smell so I usually notice odors before he does.

At first I thought it smelled like ozone. I have an ozonator to I'm familiar with the odor and the effect on the eyes. This has a mild effect on the eyes...but nothing too discernable. I noticed it during the night and first thing in the morning. Once the trade winds pick up, it lessens.

After hearing you and Stan talk about methane, it struck me that it could be a very mild odor of methane. I'm just putting this out there in case any other listeners in the islands have noticed it too. It's the type of thing that, unless someone brings it to your attention, you might not notice it. It woke me up last night, though.

Thanks again for getting me prepared 13 years ago, my friend. Between my freeze dried food, Big Berkey, medical kit, bugout bags, gold and silver, books....right down to Iodide tablets, you've provided me and my family with the information and the products to get along in an emergency. I know this sounds like a shameful plug but I'm just saying it like it is. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I hear your warnings about the islands, too and I thank you. I know and understand that we're very vulnerable in this location. Our only chance in a tsunami is to get out of the marina and out into open water. If we get enough warning, this should be a good alternative. With all the debris out in the water, it may not be possible to get back in for some time but at least the we, the boat and our supplies would be safe. We'd have to anchor offshore. But, if something happens in that way, it's not because you haven't helped us all these year, little brother.

Blessings to you and your family,
Jen
