Top Gov. Lawyers: U.S. Citizens Can Be Military Targets Without Trial: U.S. citizens are legitimate military targets when they take up arms with al-Qaida, top national security lawyers in the Obama administration said Thursday. The lawyers were asked at a national security conference about the CIA killing of Anwar al-Awlaki, a U.S. citizen and leading al-Qaida figure. He died in a Sept. 30 U.S. drone strike in the mountains of Yemen. The government lawyers, CIA counsel Stephen Preston and Pentagon counsel Jeh Johnson, did not directly address the al-Awlaki case. But they said U.S. citizens do not have immunity when they are at war with the United States. more

Dutch Researcher Created A Super-Influenza Virus With The Potential To Kill Millions: A Dutch researcher has created a virus with the potential to kill half of the planet’s population. Now, researchers and experts in bioterrorism debate whether it is a good idea to publish the virus creation ”recipe”. However, several voices argue that such research should have not happened in the first place. The virus is a strain of avian influenza H5N1 genetically modified to be extremely contagious. It was created by researcher Ron Fouchier of the Erasmus Medical Center Rotterdam, Netherlands. 6.4 Magnitude Earthquake Rattles Tectonic Plate Boundary Near Papua New Guinea: A strong 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck off Papua New Guinea’s remote New Britain region on Monday but there was no danger of a tsunami, seismologists said. The United States (US) Geological Survey said the quake hit at 10.26 pm (1226 GMT, 8.26pm Singapore time) at a depth of 50km about 221km south-east of Rabaul, New Britain. Geoscience Australia gave the quake a preliminary measurement of magnitude 6.0. The Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said there were no tsunami warnings or advisories in effect following the quake. more

Massive Fireball: 34 Vehicle Pile-Up on M5 in Horrific Accident- 7 Dead, 51 Injured: even people have been killed and 51 injured in a 34-vehicle pile-up on the M5 in Somerset, police have confirmed. Officers said Friday night’s crash, which happened close to junction 25 northbound at about 20:30 GMT, led to a “massive fireball” at the scene.
