Funds for Kashmiri Terrorists Being Raised in UK
July 17, 2002
New Delhi
Terrorist outfits in Jammu and Kashmir are getting funds from channels in the United Kingdom, the Lok Sabha was informed on Wednesday.
"There are credible reports of continued fund raising in the UK by supporters of terrorist organisations operating in India under the garb of humanitarian causes", Minister of State for External Affairs Digvijay Singh said in a written answer.
The UK Government has been fully sensitised on the matter and India will continue to pursue this matter at appropriate levels with the British authorities, he said.
Government is examining the US offer of sensor-based technologies for enhancing the overall capabilities to check cross-border infiltration, he said.
Singh said the proposal for international monitors is neither practical nor possible but if Pakistan is serious about stopping infiltration and cross border terrorism, joint patrolling offers a possible mechanism for verifying Islamabad's seriousness to its stated commitment.
