High temperatures will be as much as 20 degrees above normal, with cities such as Phoenix and Las Vegas facing 105- to 110-degree heat this afternoon. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are again forecast across the Gulf Coast states and from the Mississippi Valley to the East Coast. Thunderstorms could become severe with hail and high winds this afternoon in Wisconsin, Michigan, northern Illinois, extreme southern Texas and across the Florida peninsula.
