Nuclear energy ministry appeared to backtrack on plans

Russia's nuclear energy ministry yesterday appeared to backtrack on plans for expanded co-operation with Iran, in the wake of US criticism that Moscow risks intensifying the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
In a short statement released yesterday, the ministry said that its only co-operation with Iran was on the Bushehr nuclear reactor, and that any additional work was only at the stage of technical discussion.
The remarks came after Moscow released a 10-year plan for Iran last month, which cited the construction of additional nuclear reactors and "long-term co-operation in the use of peaceful atomic energy".
