More Arab Terrorists Arrested, Killed

May 15, 2002

IDF forces arrested a total of 14 Arab terrorist suspects in northern Shomron last night, amidst Israel's continuing campaign to wipe out the PA's terrorist infrastructures. Among those caught were several members of a terrorist cell about to carry out an attack in pre-1967 Israel. Troops spotted the cell’s suspicious van near PLO-controlled Tul Karem; in the ensuing search, they found several Arabs with Kalachnikov rifles and ammunition cartridges.

In another clash with terrorists last night, IDF forces killed two senior PLO officers: Halad Abu Kanan, head of the Halhoul area PA intelligence service, and his deputy. The two were killed when they refused to give themselves up after IDF forces surrounded their house. A third officer was arrested in the nearby village of Dura. In other war news: Arabs shot last night at the southern Gush Katif community of Kfar Darom, and a firebomb was thrown towards the community of Matan near Kalkilye. No injuries were reported in either incident.

Five young Arab stone-throwers, suspected of many stoning attacks along the Modiin highway, were arrested this morning. Their arrest came about following the interrogation of other suspects who were arrested three weeks ago.
