Shin Bet Head Cites 60 Current Terror Warnings, Calls For West Bank Buffer Zone
July 30, 2002
Avi Dichter, head of the Shin Bet, Israel's security agency, said Tuesday that there are 60 current warnings of Palestinians intending to carry-out terror attacks against Israel, reports Israel Radio.
Speaking before the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Dichter reported that 12 terror attacks were thwarted in the last few days.
Dichter said that if there were a buffer zone in the West Bank, like the one between Israel and Gaza, the Israeli army would be able to withdraw from areas under full Palestinian security and civil control. He noted that there have been 86 suicide bombers from the West Bank, and only 1 from Gaza.
