U.S. Tracks Arrival Of New North Korean Missile Shipment

U.S. intelligence agencies have traced a shipment of missile components from North Korea to the Middle East, a sign the communist state is continuing its policy of selling missile components and material to rogue states.

The missile shipment was tracked from the North Korean port of Nampo to an undisclosed location in the Middle East, said intelligence officials familiar with the report. The freighter left Nampo in early May.

Twice last year the U.S. government imposed sanctions on North Korea based on intelligence reports that the Changgwang Sinyong Corp., a North Korean missile production facility, sold missile parts to Iran. The sanctions were imposed in January and June of 2001.

The administration has imposed sanctions on Chinese companies three times since last year for sales of missile components to Pakistan and chemical weapons material to Iran. The latest round of sanctions were imposed last week against 14 Chinese, Moldovan and Armenian entities for sales to Iran.
