SMALL ENOUGH TO SERVE A BIG GOD OR
HOW TO DEFEAT THE COMING GIANTS

In a day when the armies of Israel stood upon the battle lines overlooking the valley of Elah, they saw not the armies of the Philistines, they didn’t see the king which they had begged God for, they didn’t see the presence of God Almighty that had brought them to this land of promise from their slavery in Egypt, they saw but one thing. It occupied their thoughts, it was the source of their fear and it forbade them sleep. It haunted their minds for forty days. They saw Goliath. They saw a giant which appeared greater to their eyes than all the armies of the Philistines that stood on the opposite side of the valley of Elah. Day after day they searched the camp for someone big enough to face this giant, and all the while that they were searching for someone big enough, God was searching for someone small enough.

Then there came upon the scene a boy. That’s what King Saul referred to him as “a boy”. A boy who knew that the people of God, doing the work of God, in the power of God, would accomplish for God, the things that are otherwise impossible. And all who see the impossible accomplished will see God. David knew something, he knew that as a servant of God, that the work of God is much bigger than the servant.

The question then is not how great is the servant, but how great is our God.

Gideon knew this when he faced the Midianites whose armies were as thick as locusts and whose camels could no more be counted than the sands of the sea shore. Gideon faced this vast army with three hundred men who knew how big God is.

Elijah knew this when he stood alone upon Mt.Carmel facing 400 prophets of Baal and when Elijah was done the people saw God. The people saw how great is our God.

When your enemies are more than the sands of the sea, when you stand alone against peer pressure, when you think you are the only one in your school, your work, in your circle of friends, your community, State, Nation or World that still serves God, just remember when we are weak He is strong, when there is less of us there is more of Him. You can face your struggles, the coming trials and the unimaginable knowing how big God is.

When you are outsized God isn’t. When you are outnumbered God isn’t. When your resources are depleted God’s aren’t. When your energy has waned God’s hasn’t. When you don’t know what to do God does. When you are desperate God is just getting started.

In the face of these end time struggles, in the face of the giants that come through the door of the church, in the face of the giant fall of the economy, in the face of giant armies marching upon us, in the face of literal giants coming to terrorize mankind or in the face of the giants and oppositions that come to us individually, remember, while we’re looking for someone big enough to face the giants God is looking for someone small enough to show to all how great is our God. The giants have stormed the doors of the church, one after another and the day has come that we will no longer stand on the hill with our hearts pounding in our throats looking at the giants. No! We will look beyond the giant to see one who is greater than the giants. The God who delivered David, the God who delivered Gideon and the God who answered Elijah’s prayer with fire from heaven, because the question is not how big is the giant, but how big is our God! Will you be one of the people of God, doing the things of God, for the Kingdom of God, working in the power of God, so that those who see will say there is a God, and all will know and say how great is our God.

You must choose this day to serve the Mighty, Living God of all creation or be the servant of those who are of the spirit of antichrist.

“Great is the LORD-even beyond the borders of Israel!” Malachi 1:5
“My name will be great among the nations, from the rising to the setting of the sun.” Malachi 1:11
