Good Morning, This is a conformation on what you all have been taking about. I have friends that work for a hospital in West Islip NY. They are very concerned about the Ebola situation. Let me explain why. Although most Long Islanders think that the Ebola patients will be treated at Stony Brook Hospital and LIJ, the truth is they will also be arriving at this ER and put into an isolation unit where they have those beds set up in a plastic looking tent units, then shipped to Stony Brook...The workers wanted to know why not send them straight to Stony Brook. They were not given a reply that made any sense. Also they told me that even though there is a Hazmat unit, there are NO supplies for all staff and they are not being trained or shown what to do, Yes there were talks but no training for all workers, let me reiterate, they were not shown what to do. Also, they can not use rubber gloves when they are helping folks with paper work etc., even if they are from Africa. Why you may ask ? Well, it appears they were told it makes people feel uncomfortable. You can't make this stuff up and it's highly probable that this is going on at other hospitals as well ! What concerns me is the fact that EMT's and Fire Departments, on Long Island, those that help transport people by ambulance are volunteers, and the powers that be are putting the medical staff and all these selfless caring volunteers at risk. Rest assured folks these powers know exactly what they are doing. Although some people say ignorance is bliss, in this case ignorance can be down right deadly.
