The truth is, judging by history, we are not just going to wake up one morning and find tanks and soldiers in the streets. There will be a gradual build up to the time when that happens. The question we all have to answer is exactly when is the best time to jump and run. Do it too soon and you may have to return to the place you've left only to be stuck there when the hammer falls. Do it too late and you could get caught n the middle of a riot and not get out at all. The first and most important advice I can give you is take it to The Lord and see what He wants you to do. I have done that and I have received my answer. I'll tell you now, it requires me to stick my neck out and I'm not comfortable with that. But I believe in The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. I KNOW that if is His will that I remain behind while others leave, then either I will make it out myself by the skin of my teeth, or not at all but my sacrifice will enable many others to get out and He will not overlook that. You hear people say "I can live with that." and that's easy. With enough patience you can learn to live with anything, even the old lady in the apartment above yours that thinks that two A.M. is the prefect time to take out her square bowling ball and practice for an hour or two. What I have learned is that even if I die, I will return with the Lord of Hosts. I can die with that. Finding something you can die with or for is a much harder task. But that's me. Let's talk about you.

Historically speaking the collapse of any society is a phase by phase thing. Look at pre- WW II. The Nazi party was on the rise. The Jews, gypsies, those who didn't agree with Nazism saw what was coming. Most hoped that things would turn around and all they had to do was sit tight, keep their nose clean, not make any waves and everything would turn out okay. Many of them died in Hitler's camps. However some had the foresight to see what was coming and jumped when they had the chance. My favorite science fiction author, R. A. Heinlein once said; "In the course of a long life a wise man is prepared to abandon his luggage, several times." And it may well come to that. In fact scripture predicts it.

Luke 17:31 ΒΆ In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back.

Now this refers to the return of The Lord, but it is also wise advice for those who have ears to hear and eyes to see. It doesn't happen everyday but I'm sure we have all heard of people losing their lives because they couldn't bare the thought of losing their stuff. They will run back into a burning building to get stuff. They will drown rather than let go of the suitcase that has their stuff. I've heard tell that one way certain types of monkeys are caught is by making a hole in something like a gourd and filling it with rice. The monkey reaches in and grabs a hand full of rice, but the hole is so small he can't get his closed fist out of the hole. So he sits they waiting to be grabbed and put into a cage because he won't let go of stuff.

As a veteran let me give you a piece of advice I learned from my time in the service. If it doesn't bleed, it isn't that important. When the time comes to run for it, forget the stuff, just get out and get out NOW. As to the timing of getting out, you must judge by your surroundings. I would say that at the first sign that rioting could become wide spread, it could already be too late. If it isn't, but you're not sure if this is it, take a few days of vacation time and leave. If everything returns to normal you have lost nothing. If they don't you may have gained everything. One isolated riot is nothing to worry about, unless it is happening near you. But when they begin to spread and more force and more LETHAL force is used to try to stop them, get out. If people are beginning to violently take their arguments to the government, you know the government is going to go overboard to protect themselves. Get out. If and when you have to leave, take only the basics. Food, water, weapons and ammo if you have them and take as much as you can. Again as a veteran, and I'm sure any veteran who has been there will confirm what I say, too much food, too much water and too much weapons and ammo are all self correcting problems. Day by day each of those loads is going to become lighter and easier to carry, until the day comes when you wish you still had that problem. Forget the nice things you had at home. They are gone and they add nothing to your chances at survival.

Another sure sign that leaving would be a good idea is when law enforcement is widespread and calling in the military for help. They may not have declared martial law yet but when those kinds of forces are on the street and still the riots and or "resistance" continues, it is almost too late to get out. If you see signs that check points are being constructed at major arteries in and out of where you live, run for it. Let the above scripture says, "Let him not turn back." Just go. That stuff may be nice, it may be valuable, but I promise you that stuff is going to be easier to replace than you are.
