I use to work in airport operations in south Florida. Your recent Q alert
about a flash and then power going out is just transformers blowing. It
happens regularly in south Florida. When the transformers blow it make
quite a flash. Seems like once one goes, several others will go soon after.
I have had airline pilots reporting that they were getting hit with lasers
from the ground when I was out on the field and I could see (and the tower
agreed) that it was just transformers blowing. The south Florida electrical
system is rather poor. After the hurricanes we had crews come in from other
parts of the country and many said our system was in poor condition.
